The NCAA says it will settle a big lawsuit filed a few years back by DI athletes who wanted their scholarships to cover school supplies, incidentals such as laundry bills, and (here comes the big one) insurance.
The settlement-- should it takes place-- will allow, but not require, DI schools to pay for items above, including disability insurance to cover lost future income from any career-ending injuries.
The $20M price includes many other things too, among them more rule changes and what looks like a $10M fund through which the NCAA will assist some members in covering new expenses for football and men's, but not women's, hoops players.
