Inane commentary on a game that deserves far better

Thursday, February 12, 2009

From the WBCA:
The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced today that over 100 televised women’s basketball games across the nation will be dedicated to the WBCA Pink Zone™.

“Through the unified effort of coaches, teams and women’s basketball supporters across the country, the WBCA Pink Zone games are reaching fans with a message much more important than winning and losing,” said WBCA CEO Beth Bass. “We have all been touched by breast cancer in one way or another, and it is important to use any platform we can to increase awareness and funding to battle this disease.”

ESPN has joined the initiative by dedicating their annual “February Frenzy” women’s college basketball games on ESPN2 and ESPN360.com to supporting the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund, in partnership with The V Foundation. February Frenzy will showcase eight regionalized games within two telecast windows for the biggest regular-season day in women’s college basketball on Sunday, Feb. 15 at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. ET. They will also dedicate the Big Monday game on Monday, Feb. 16 at 7:30 p.m. to the cause.

CBS College Sports Network and Fox Sports have also joined the cause by encouraging donations to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund™, in partnership with The V Foundation, during televised WBCA Pink Zone games.
