Inane commentary on a game that deserves far better

Wednesday, March 12, 2003

woke up this morning, thought: maybe it was all a dream. but no... UConn really did lose.

Geno says: "Villanova didn't beat us. We lost." Harry's methodical strategy threw the Huskies off. Taurasi says all they can do is try to regroup -- she's also says that it was a couple misses switches on d (when they were trying to back out of the zone press into the half-court man d -- thanks sara) that allowed 'Nova to start the second half run. After the game, it was a sad scene on the UConn bench.

Harry said it was a miracle, the biggest win in the program's history. He had told his team before the game that they didn't have a chance. Geno and Harry, who are friends, were both gracious sportsmen after the game. (But -- check out SportsCenter today (great coverage), where Geno goes off on a reporter.) Juhline was so excited she didn't know what to do.

Here are some stats from the streak.

Note that this didn't exactly come out of the blue. Geno says the last couple weeks have been bad. The Providence game was horrible; the first half against Va Tech was shaky. So what's up? And what from here?
