Inane commentary on a game that deserves far better

While Ted has discussed Dee Brown's situation, the more shocking news out of San Antonio is the rumor that Marie Ferdinand's name was on the trading block before the injury (according the Seattle Storm announcers).

This is simply inconceivable. The judgment of GM Clarissa Davis-Wrightsil and Coach Dee Brown must be called into question. Margo Dydek's slow, halfcourt style and her refusal to consistently play in the low block have always been major inhibitants to the success of the franchise. But Marie Ferdinand is a young star, who has the potential to be an Olympian in 2008. She is athletic, she can create her own shot whenever she wants, she has a great mid-range game, she can slash, and her outside shot is improving quite nicely. She is the future of the team, not LaToya Thomas who is not known for her passing or for making her teammates better.

I picked the Silver Stars last in the West, simply because Shannon Johnson, Thomas, and Adrienne Goodson are not known for their passing (and it is more problematic considering Pee Wee is the team's point guard).

I seriously doubt there were talks with Western Conference teams (Phoenix was never contacted about a trade for Marie, incidentally). Indiana, however, should be salivating at the prospect of Marie on the trading block. Remember, Indiana snared Natalie Williams away from the Silver Stars. Hmmm...maybe Kelly Krauskopf can pull another one over on the Silver Stars franchise.
