In men's Division I basketball, there are 308 male head coaches, zero female head coaches. In women's basketball, there are 99 male head coaches and 208 female head coaches. Men's teams average $61,100 in recruiting expenses; women's teams average $39,600. Men's teams average 12.0 scholarships, women's teams average 13.2.

The average salary of a head coach for a men's team is $211,600. The average salary of a head coach for a women's team is $118,300. The USA Today reports that across all sports, the salary gap between women's coaches and men's coaches has actually grown.

Men's basketball teams average revenue of $2.1 million and expenses of $1.4 million for a profit of $700,000. Women's teams average revenue of $424,000 and expenses of $887,000 for a loss of $463,000.

Men's sports overall produce an average per-school profit of a bit less than $2 million. If you excluded football, however, men's sports would show a loss. Women's sports overall produce an average loss of a bit less than $2 million.
