Inane commentary on a game that deserves far better

Eventful night in Detroit: Kristin Haynie's heralded homecoming brought almost 11,000 fans to the Palace, many of whom cheered for her Monarchs over the home team.

Plenette Pierson, in her first game since Phoenix dealt her to Detroit, scored 22. Phoenix fans don't expect her to keep it up.

Shock coach Laimbeer got ejected in the first half. Rick Mahorn, Cheryl Ford, and Monarchs coach Whisenant got T'ed up later on.

DeMya Walker took a disturbing hit to her knee brace; teammates and a trainer carried her off the court. The Monarchs say the injury isn't major, though it still hurts. Coach Whisenant: "That brace has got steel in it. She's sore, and she's going to be sore. Even if it's not season-ending, it might put her out of the game Sunday at Seattle."

Andrea Stinson-- dealt to Phoenix (along with a draft pick) for Pierson, then waived-- turned up in street clothes with the Shock. Detroit could use her as an assistant coach, especially if-- as some expect-- Laimbeer moves to the men's side and Mahorn takes over the Shock.

Oh, and the Monarchs won by 17. Detroit fans wonder where their Bad Girls have gone wrong.
