Inane commentary on a game that deserves far better

WNBA message board fans have no ambivalence when it comes to Sparks center, Lisa Leslie. Beloved by Sparks fans, hated with a burning venom (for the most part) by everyone else.

It isn't Lisa Leslie's fault she does not draw fans to the game the way Serena and Venus Williams have done for tennis (which is what Val Ackerman privately thought would happen). She has been prone to throwing elbows and punches without repercussion from the league brass. And yes, Leslie does not come across as the most humble or endearing.

But credit must be given when earned. Leslie has always been the first player to volunteer to appear on tradtionally male-dominated sports radio and television programs (such as the Best Damn Sports Show Period) and pitch the WNBA and the women's game in general. In my opinion, she has gone above and beyond to promote the sport (yes, she has been compensated, but she rarely says no to public appearances). And Leslie has appeared on every Olympic and World Championship team over the past decade.

Leslie is going to appear on Ashton Kutcher's show, Punk'd (to put it more accurately, she is going to get "Punk'd). Congratulations, Lisa, for signing the waiver and agreeing to let the segment air (not all celebrities have done that).
