Inane commentary on a game that deserves far better

Friday, February 10, 2006

In the Big 10 last night, Wisconsin got back on track with a 66-61 win at Illinois. The Badgers outscored the Illini 36-12 in the paint and coach Lisa Stone called it a "complete game for us." This was the seventh loss in a row for the Illini after beating the Badgers by 30 in Madison last month.

The Illini will try to end the losing streak and duplicate what Indiana did last night - earn a sweep of the regular season from Penn State. The Hoosiers defeated Penn State 58-43 as Jenny DeMuth broke the school's steals record. This was the first time that Indiana has ever won two games from Penn State in a season.

Shannon Schonrock broke the three point record for the Gophers last night but the Spartans dominated in every facet of the game in a 84-61 romp. After struggling in the first game this season at Minnesota, Rene Haynes returned to her old self and helped dismantle the Gophers with her pressure defense and explosive offensive game. Coach P summed it up: "when you have that type of ball pressure and that kind of rebounding only good things can happen."
