Inane commentary on a game that deserves far better

It was billed as a matchup of two top ten teams. The result proved the billing to be a lie.

Purdue thrashed a grossly overranked Minnesota squad. The game was actually close at intermission, but the Gophs didn't score for the first eight minutes of the second half, and scored only 10 more points by the end.

Even the Boilers were a bit mystified at Minnesota's second half meltdown. When asked to describe what changed at the half, Katie Gearlds responded "Good question."

Former Colorado coach Ceal Barry did the color work for ESPN's broadcast, and she did a nice job. Barry left coaching in large part because she couldn't stomach the recruiting rat race anymore.

Yesterday, while praising Kristi Curry's tireless recruiting efforts, Barry quipped, "If you're not willing to put that kind of time into recruiting, you may as well be announcing." The subtle self-referentialism was apparently lost on her broadcast partner.
