Inane commentary on a game that deserves far better

Tuesday, March 07, 2006

The Horizon League has a champion, and for the first time in five years, it's not Green Bay.

Wisconsin-Milwaukee beat Illinois-Chicago to earn UWM's first trip to the Big Dance since 2001. UWM frosh Traci Edwards scored 24 as the Panthers kept their first-half lead.

Panthers coach Sandy Botham: "We've always been one of the top teams in the league, but we've always faltered. There's a lot of pressure in these games, but haven't been able to handle it... It was great to be at home for this as the number one seed. We held court and were able to do it in front of our home crowd and in this city."

Illinois-Chicago knocked out Green Bay in Saturday's semifinal, holding the Phoenix to ten minutes without a field goal.
