Inane commentary on a game that deserves far better

Voepel says the Sooners deserve a top seed, but won't get one.

Do they? Not if you think the seeding should reflect performance on the year, with November and February given equal weight: Oklahoma lost badly to UConn, and lost again on December 18 to mediocre Illinois.

On the other hand, OU have become the first-ever team to complete a perfect Big XII season. And a team built around a first-year should-- and did-- struggle early, then improve dramatically as she adjusted to college play.

If the committee grounds its decisions not in how well each team has played over the year, but in how good each team seems to be right now, Oklahoma has a strong case.

UPDATE: Voepel says elsewhere that every decision about the tournament-- except the actual making of the bracket-- can be laid at the door of ESPN.

She also does some last-minute campaigning, noting that four among K-State's ten losses, including the conference quarterfinal loss to Baylor, took them to OT.
