San Antonio took advantage of a lackluster effort from Charlotte's starters to cruise to a 88-61 win on the road. The attendance of 2136 seems surprisingly good since the game was only open to Sting season ticket holders.
Rookie Shanna Zolman led six Silver Star players in double figures with 19 points as San Antonio shot 58% from the floor and 61% from 3 point range. Monique Currie and Tammy Sutton-Brown were two of the bright spots for the Sting as they finished with 16 and 15 points respectively. Veterans Helen Darling, Allison Feaster, Sheri Sam and Tangela Smith were a combined 1-14 from the floor.
Coach Bogues on the lack of effort by his team: "It was just a lackluster effort on our part, turning the basketball over and not getting back on defense. Those are all of the things we work on in practice, and they didn’t happen on the basketball court and that is frustrating."
Sutton-Brown was disappointed but thinks the team will bounce back. "Obviously it is not a great feeling right now, especially after the season we had last year going 6-28. We just know that we don’t want to go down that road again. Fortunately, these are only exhibition games and they don’t count. But they definitely are learning experiences, and we know what we have to work on in practice."
