Inane commentary on a game that deserves far better

Thursday, June 01, 2006

It was a fun Wednesday night at the Target Center if you are a Lynx fan. A team that over the years often struggled to put points on the board broke all kinds of scoring records in an impressive 114-71 victory over the Sparks. The win was the first on the year for the Lynx, and finally tapped into the talent the young team had shown in parts of their previous three games.

Rookie extraordinaire Seimone Augustus set the tone early offensively hitting shots all over the court and made it look effortless. Every active player for the Lynx got on the floor and contributed (even Vanessa Hayden who only played a little over eight minutes before fouling out had a nice assist to Adrian Williams). And the Lynx simply dominated a tired and flat Sparks team from start to finish.

Svetlana Abrosimova : "When I played here three, four years ago, I would never think that (scoring record) was possible. But with the team we have this season, I think we can even break our own records... It's good for the league, it's good for the fans who were at the game. It was just a fun game. When we play like that, we can break any records."

Svet and the rest of her team combined to hit 15 of 22 three point attempts and the Lynx assisted on 29 of 39 made baskets.

Although the crowd was small in numbers, it was a wonderful atmosphere for the visiting president of the league.
