Inane commentary on a game that deserves far better

Detroit's veterans got them past the Sun in a tough rematch at the casino.

Whalen tied the game with late free throws, but her second drive in as many plays produced a turnover instead, and Katie Smith sealed the win for the vistors. Smith led all scorers with 21; "they battled and we battled back," she summed up.

Though the game had ten ties and seven lead changes, Whalen, McWilliams-Franklin and Sales combined shot only 6-33; they can thank Asjha Jones for keeping them in it. Rothum says the game-- which featured three technicals on Detroit-- wasn't so much a battle as a mess.

The Day likens it to a tractor pull. Whalen: "Any time you shoot the percentage that we shot, that shows some rushed shots and shots we shouldn't have taken."
