Inane commentary on a game that deserves far better

Sacramento played their kind of ball: offense stifled on both ends, defense everywhere, traps and steals all over the place. The home crowd loved it.

Connecticut played without Sales. Four of their starters just flew in from New York and the All-Star Game. Katie Douglas, who sat with quick fouls early on, had her most frustrating shooting day since October '04.

Worst of all, Connecticut couldn't hold on to the leather: the season-high 26 turnovers include some pretty Sacto steals, but plenty of sad, unforced errors.

The Sun somehow kept the game within reach anyway, closing within two points on Taj's putback with about a minute left. They couldn't get farther: the Monarchs pulled it off.

Before the game, coach Whiz gave his team a B for the season so far. Ticha gave herself a B-minus. She looked fine today, though, with leaping steals and tight D that shut down the Sun's smaller one guards.

Coach Thibault on the turnovers: "You can't win big games doing things like that." On Douglas' rough day: "Katie got to sit and watch most of the first half. That killed her shooting rhythm." On the officiating: nothing. "I like keeping my money."

Coach Whiz, whose victorious team shot 38%: "Every possession was a war."
