Inane commentary on a game that deserves far better

Friday, December 01, 2006

UConn used superior foot speed, transition scoring, and sticky defense to dominate Purdue towards the end of the first half; the Boilers hustled and sliced the lead to five, but the sometimes sloppy Huskies built it back for a double-digit win.

Speedy Renee Montgomery led everybody with 26; Mel Thomas, who (as usual) hit the floor for each loose ball, helped hold the much taller Gearlds to almost nothin'-- four points, 0-for-9 in treys.

Geno praised MelTo's D: "She's always guarding kids bigger than her, quicker than her. But... she's never guarded anybody tougher than her."

Gearlds: "Basketball is a very humbling game... I thought I had great looks, great great looks."

An articulate Purdue fan argues that UConn needed home court to win.
