Inane commentary on a game that deserves far better

In a game full of stars, Lindsey Harding was the best player on the floor yesterday. Her game was nearly flawless, as was her team's.

Herald-Sun columnist Frank Dascenzo calls Harding's game "one of the best I've ever seen by a Duke basketball player." She played tight defense, as always. She threw thread-the-needle passes. She pushed the tempo. And most of all, she used her speed and great hesitation moves to get to the rim, seemingly at will.

"People don't realize just how quick she is until they have to guard her," Abby Waner said. "That's what I get to go against every day in practice."

Duke dominated just about every aspect of the game. They shot better, they passed better, they defended better, and they ran the floor better.

"I thought this game we were outworked, out-hustled, out-coached ... you name it," coach Frese said. "Duke was a dominant team and made a huge statement in this game."

In years past, I wondered why Duke didn't draw more fans, especially student fans. How things have changed. Yesterday, Cameron was packed with crazies. It rocked. Regardless of what team you were rooting for, it was wonderful to see what is happening today in ACC women's basketball.

And what is it like playing a game like that in front of a crowd like that? "There's no feeling like it," Harding said.
