Inane commentary on a game that deserves far better

Sunday, January 07, 2007

When Candace Parker dunked at the Hartford Civic Center, she capped what looked like a runaway Tennessee win: at the time, the Lady Vols led by 18.

Then something happened: UConn came all the way back, tying things up at 60 behind superior inside play from Charde Houston and Brittany Hunter (easily her best game in a Huskies uniform).

Alas, Parker kept going; her spin moves ensured a win for the visitors in orange. CP finished with 30 and 12, and never left the floor; Houston scored 23, but the Husky frontcourt combined to shoot just 6-13 from the line.

UConn hasn't beaten UT since 2004. Parker may be unstoppable, but the Vols took their big lead in part because trying to stop her left other Lady Vols-- especially Sidney Spencer-- open for treys.

Geno: "The first half, we just killed ourselves with the six threes [Tennessee made]. And the only three they make in the second half was a backbreaker."
