Inane commentary on a game that deserves far better

Friday, February 09, 2007

The Gophers played another solid game against the top of the Big 10, but came up short again 70-67. In attendance for the game were former Lynx and Buckeye Katie Smith and current Lynx members Nicole Ohlde, Amber Jacobs and Shona Thorburn.

Ashley Ellis-Milan, Emily Fox and Leslie Knight combined for 42 for MN and the Gophers led for most of the second half before the Buckeyes took the lead at 64-63. Ellis-Milan and Zoe Harper slowed Jessica Davenport down, but could not stop her second career triple double.

Coach Jim Foster looked to Davenport to step up even more when Brandie Hoskins went down with what looked like a re-injury of her Achilles tendon. Stephanie Blanton stepped in for Hoskins in the line-up and Marscilla Packer led the Buckeyes with 18.

While OSU has a firm command of the Big 10 lead and Purdue and Michigan State are locks for the NCAA tournament, the rest of the conference is murky.
