The A-Ten conference champion is Xavier. The Musketeers led for much of the game, then overcame St. Joe's late run by making their free throws.

XU might, or might not, have made the tourney had they failed to win the auto-bid. Coach McGuff: "I can actually get some sleep this week. I felt like we had done enough, but at this point you never want to put it in somebody else's hands. We were really hungry."

The tourney's hero (and XU's scoring leader): Joei Clyburn, a WVU transfer who comes off the bench in her one and only season as a Musketeer. Clyburn's double-double (19 and 13 on 6-8 shooting) gave her team a big rebounding edge.
