Inane commentary on a game that deserves far better

Monday, April 02, 2007

Rutgers unlikely tournament run is still alive thanks to a 59-35 thumping over LSU.

Hot three point shooting from Matee Ajavon and Essence Carson in the first half and physical defense from Kia Vaughn, Rashidat Junaid and multiple help defenders on Sylvia Fowles decided this game early.

Fowles said "It was just so hard to get into a rhythm. There was nothing I could do." But as much as the defense of Rutgers may have helped decide the game, for some reason Fowles and most of her teammates gave a sluggish performance.

The Lady Tigers shot under 27% from the floor and 30% from the line. Fowles only connected on two of her 10 attempts and the outside shooting that was so key in the win against UConn was nonexistent.

The biggest scare for the Scarlet Knights did not end up being Fowles or the Lady Tigers, but a leg cramp to the valuable Carson in the second half. While Carson sat for much of the second half, she will be starting in the championship game.
