Inane commentary on a game that deserves far better

Going into last night's game, the Comets were still optimistic about making the playoffs. But a flat start did not help as they lost to the Liberty 77-71. Houston is now one loss away from being eliminated from the playoffs.

Tina Thompson and Hamchetou Maiga-Ba combined for 40 points for Houston, but the rest of the team struggled from the floor. "We couldn't maintain a lead," said Maiga-Ba. "We were playing uphill almost the whole game. They were always in control." Thompson said the lethargic start to the game for her team was puzzling. “It was hard to swallow,” she said. “But you have to continue to motivate and try to pull it out. They tried to get it back.

The Liberty had four players in double figures, including 17 each from Loree Moore and Janel McCarville. Jessica Davenport provided a boost from the bench with 13 points.

Thompson responded to the report about her decision to possibly retire from the WNBA at the end of the season. Sheryl Swoopes also said she hopes to play again this season and, if not, is planning on returning next season.
