Inane commentary on a game that deserves far better

Wednesday, August 08, 2007

Sacramento just got past Connecticut in an eventful game. Kara Lawson got booed (as usual at the casino), then got 21 points. Whalen and Jones got 17 apiece, though Whalen missed a final layup that would have tied it.

Jones and coach Thibault, for their part, got technicals, and Katie Douglas's husband got kicked out of the arena after mouthing off to a ref. "He took care of me and the team," Douglas shrugged.

Like many Monarchs games, this one got physical; the defense focused on Douglas."I'm second-guessing myself a little bit for not going back to a bigger lineup, but we were getting beat on pick and rolls," Thibault said. "And their bench killed us."

The loss gives momentum to Sacto, who needed it, and takes it away from Connecticut, who would place third (i.e. no home-court advantage) if the playoffs began today.
