Inane commentary on a game that deserves far better

Thursday, February 14, 2008

Fontbonne University likes to ruin a good party, having ended Washington University's 81-game win streak in 2001. FU was presented with another spoiler opportunity as host to rival Maryville University and their conference win streak last night. Like the dedicated bouncers at a super sweet sixteen, the Saints were able to keep the party rocking as planned, hitting 50 percent in the first half.

Maryville's 86-65 victory extends their St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season win streak to a Division III record 73 games.

While reflecting on the less "refined" talent he inherited when taking over the program in 2001, Coach Chris Ellis recalls, "We were just trying to win a game - literally a game - our first year." There were three Maryville SLIAC wins in 2001-2002, but thanks for (fuzzily) remembering us as you hit the big time, Coach.

Congrats, Saints!
