Furious? Elated? Confused? Last night's Big Monday Think Pink match up of Tennessee vs. Rutgers has provoked a wide range of emotions. The official result is Lady Vols - 59, Scarlet Knights - 58.
Most who watched the game are not as convinced of the final score. Trailing 58-57, Nicky Anosike grabbed a rebound and was fouled by Kia Vaughn from behind. She calmly sank two free throws to give her team the win. But the question is whether the foul happened before the buzzer as the game clock seemed to pause with 0.2 seconds left on the clock.
“It’s unbelievable; I don’t understand,’’ Essence Carson said. “I don’t know how anyone can take that many shots in that amount of time and still have time left on the clock. It bothers me.”
Candace Parker obviously has a different perspective. "We're not going to make the best plays all the time," Parker said. "We're going to turn the ball over, and the referees aren't going to make the right call all the time. That's the game of basketball. We won and came out with the victory with a 'W' on our side. "That's what we're going to take with us."
Looking past the controversial ending, both Carson and Parker had solid games for their teams. Parker led all scorers with 27 points, including 11-13 from the line. Carson carried the scoring load for Rutgers, along with Epiphanny Prince, as they combined for 39 points.
