And article from Louisiana discussing the use of "Lady" in team names. Some find it demeaning and belittling, others disagree.
"We can be as tough and competitive as any man, but we can still be ladies," said Johnson, a former All-American basketball player at Louisiana College in the 1970s who later coached and was the athletics director at the school. "I don't see it demeaning us."

Jessica "JT" Thompson of Pineville, who finished her softball career at LC in the spring, feels the same way as Johnson.

"We are ladies first," Thompson said. "Coach (Tim) Whitman always treats us like ladies. We are ladies and I like it being part of the name."
I always ask, does the reasoning pass the "switch the gender" test? For example, consider this discussion surrounding eliminating the following team qualifier: "Gentlemen" Demons.
"We can be as tough and competitive as any woman, but we can still be gentlemen," said Johnson, a former All-American basketball player at Louisiana College in the 1970s who later coached and was the athletics director at the school. "I don't see it demeaning us."

Jim "JT" Thompson of Pineville, who finished his baseball career at LC in the spring, feels the same way as Johnson.

"We are gentlemen first," Thompson said. "Coach (Susan) Whitman always treats us like gentlemen. We are gentlemen and I like it being part of the name."
