Inane commentary on a game that deserves far better

Pooh said, "The hurrier I go, the behinder I get."

Not unlike the Eastern Conference playoff picture -- "the closier we get, the confusider we are."

1) From the NY Post: Libs lose an ugly one. (Truer words were never spoke.)

The Liberty showed why they are a team clinging to its playoff hopes while Seattle proved it is a true WNBA title contender.

After leading for most of the second half, the Liberty allowed the Storm to go on a game-closing 10-3 run to eke out a 65-58 win last night at the Garden.

2) Scoreboard watching during the Lib game I thought -- hmmm, no Katie? Must be Ford. Yuppers! Cheryl had a "I (may be) baaaaack) game (22pts, 11rbs)" as Detroit won a shootout with Phoenix, 101-99.

"Yeah, my eyes light up when we play them," Ford said after finishing with 22 points and 11 rebounds in Detroit's 101-99 victory. "I know they don't have a big inside presence."

3) The Sun added to the playoff mess by getting worked over by Becky Brunson (32 points) and the rest of the Monarchs. The loss, combined with Detroit's victory over Phoenix, dropped the Sun (14-17) from a fourth-place tie to sixth place in the Eastern Conference with three games remaining.

4) The Dream did their part by blowing past the Sparks (well, Izzy did) in the fourth quarter and exiting the Staples Center with an 84-79 victory.

Leslie scored 24 points for the Sparks, who have lost two of three after winning six consecutive games, and Cooper is cranky.

"This was a game we gave away," Cooper said. "When the game got tough, they took it to us and we couldn't recover. We got pushed and shoved. It's not just about the fundamentals. It's about being tough."
