Here's some Big XII news not involving unbeaten teams:
1. Oklahoma beat Baylor in Norman in OT, holding the Bears without a point for the last three minutes of the extra frame. Griner blocked eleven shots, but couldn't stop Nyeshia Stevenson's last-chance game-winner.
OU's Amanda Thompson ended up with 19 and 19; her overtime exploits included two steals from Griner and one blocked shot that preserved the tie. "I felt possessed probably after that block," she recalled. "I felt like I didn’t even see the crowd after that. I blanked out."
2. Bolstering my hypothesis that Texas A&M are actually Rutgers, the Aggies got upset by once-good, now-lowly Texas Tech, in a low-scoring, defense-first game in Lubbock. Both teams ended up with more turnovers than assists, but Texas A&M had a lot more (21 to 5).
And yet TAMU led with two minutes to go: then Ashlee Roberson's steal and three-point play turned things around for the home team.
I don't love his style of play, but I do like coach Blair. Here's what the top Aggie said after his team fell: "I would like to give Texas Tech a lot of credit for what they've been going through. Those nine players they had... played their butts off.... They were doing a good job of playing a 20-second offense and we couldn't guard them.
"Being an ex-Red Raider, I'd like to know where all of the Red Raiders are? This program deserves people in the stands. Everyone goes through tough times. We built our program at A&M around what Texas Tech and Texas have done over the years. Don't wait around for a winner, because Chicago Cubs fans have been waiting for about 100 years. Get out and support Coach Curry and more importantly, support those seniors."
