From Joe Smith, regarding this morning's Indy Star article:
(Of course, outside the top 50 or so football and men's basketball programs, there are virtually no profitable college sports of any kind.)
Purdue's AD Morgan Burke has never been a true supporter of women's basketball. His statement that even the elite of women's basketball do not make money is not true. Connecticut and Texas Tech among others are very profitable for their institutions. His statement merely reinforces the fact that he really not a supporter of the women's game. Curry has had to fight for everything she has gotten; and Burke is one key reasons that Curry is one of the leading candidates for Marsha Sharp's job at Texas Tech. That may be true. But I believe that you can count the number of profitable women's basketball programs on one hand.
