Inane commentary on a game that deserves far better

1. Diana and her Mercury used a furious comeback to get past the Comets in a day game in Phoenix. DT scored 30, including the late trey that put the Merc in the lead.

Diana, who had a lousy game on Sunday, knew she was having a good one yesterday. “I let it go," she recalled, "and I was like, 'If that doesn’t go in I should retire from basketball.’"

2. The Mystics won ugly in Washington, defeating the favored Fever despite a fourteen-point first half. Not quarter: half.

Alana and Taj had some words with their teammates at halftime; Taj ended up scoring 20, including the decisive final field goal.

What did they say? Taj: "We just got on each other. We had our going-to-church service meeting, yelling, screaming, crying. Myself and Alana just told everybody we've got to pull it together. If you don't want to be here, don't be here, don't come out."

3. In Detroit, the local news coverage seems to get worse and worse (maybe the print edition of the local papers has the game, but the Web doesn't, or not yet).

The Shock, on the other hand, may still be getting better: the home team overtook the visiting Sun to win the season series. "We made it too easy for them," coach Thibault said.

Mike keeps tinkering with the starting lineup--- this time it included Kerri Gardin again, while starters Whalen and Jones combined for 41; look at the bench points, though, and you'll see one reason Connecticut lost.
